NUFS Podcast 038


Paola & Hide host a NUFS podcast program about the present and the future!
Paola studies design – she dreams about being an “Imagine-er” for Disney. Together they ask NUFS students what job they dream about having in the future. What do NUFS students want to be when they grow up? Listen and find out!


This week on Meena’s International Corner, African-born Meenakshi Sharma reports on the conflict in Sudan: The Darfur Crisis. Most Japanese don’t know much about Darfur because the conflict is rather under-reported in Japan. Meenakshi explains the basics of the Darfur problem and directs NUFS podcast fans to these links on Darfur they can access for themselves.

Aoi & Naomi host a program with information & opinions from the NUFS community. This week:

“Anime” Japanese animation becoming popular all over the world – what do our international students know about Japanese animation? And what’s their opinion of it? Is it a positive or negative point of Japanese popular culture?

This podcast digs deeply into social topics. Why does Japan have the highest suicide rate in the developed world? You’ll be surprised to hear how well young Japanese know about the factors that contribute to this problem, and they share many feelings that they have about solving the problem.

Podcast producer Takumi Ota reports on Japan’s suicide statistics, many of which will shock you. He also tells what government action is being taken to fix this problem, and offers a bit of his own advice for all of us to help each other.

NUFS International student Jane Fancher is enjoying Japan and spending time fashion-watching. She brings us foreign students’ reactions to how young Japanese men & women dress on this week’s BIKKURI Korner.

Finally, Naomi & Aoi teach us a new phrase – “Time flies!” just at the end of podcast.

Yukko & Chucky talk about the “culture shock” NUFS students experience when they study abroad. Hear what NUFS students say about the manners & traditions that surprised them in school, during daily life, concerning personal relationships and more.


On this week’s International Corner, Meenakshi Sharma looks at another aspect of human rights: Child Labor. How many children are working in third-world countries? Under what conditions? Mandy Ranne & Marie Kanazu have one important thing in common: they've both studied abroad, and they discovered that they loved it! So, they asked other students -- Japanese & international students about their experiences studying abroad. How did it change them? What did they learn? NUFS Podcast #34 features the debut of "Meena's International Corner," in which African-born Meenakshi Sharma focuses on one aspect of human rights – the death penalty. Most people in Japan support capital punishment; how do people in the NUFS community feel about this issue?








Finally, our program asks first year students, the”Freshers,” how they feel about being at university in general and what they think about NUFS specifically. They’ve been here 2 months now, so that’s enough time for them to have an opinion.
