NUFS Podcast 051

Merry Christmas to all from the NUFS Podcast!! To celebrate this most festive of holidays, the NUFS Podcast this week explores the question: "If Japan's not a Christian country, why do they celebrate Christmas?" Hear what Nihonjin and foreigners alike have to say about that!

Renae Muller from the "Oz Style" corner bids us a final farewell -- before she leaves for Australia, she's asking her friends at the International House how they plan to spend their Christmas & New Year's holiday.

And finally, Yukko & Kayoko (with some big help from Shoko) report on a survey of 100 NUFS women that examines their attitudes toward work. Why do Japanese women face discrimination from companies when they're looking for a job? They wonder if women themselves share any of the responsibility for the discrimination they experience.

Do you watch movies when they come to the movie theater? Or do you wait until the movie comes out on DVD to see it? Yukko & Shoko talk about how expensive movie ticket prices are in Japan and they ask international students how much it costs to see a movie in their countries.

Then Yukko has surprising answers for you about WHY tickets are so expensive!
Next, they turn to the serious subject of the past abductions of Japanese by North Korea. Producer Kayoko Sato has a special report to give you background information about it, and Yukko & Shoko find out how much International students know about it.
